Organization across the globe keeps on emphasizing on team building, team management and trying to create team based culture and wants to run the organization on team based culture these teams handle some of major task / projects of organization and then run the whole show; however there are some practical pitfalls and bottlenecks in this system.

These bottleneck or issues are so big that sometime it impacts the organization up to root level.as per research the biggest bottleneck of all the times is “Ineffective Communication” which account more than 20% of all the issues, followed by lack of effective planning, visioning and goal setting.

Team Effectiveness Bottlenecks

The Below Chart shows How team spends their time and its effectiveness?

Solutions & Conclusions:

People constitute team and teams constitute organization, these teams become primary driver for the business growth. Then it becomes highly important to see the teams are equipped with enough learning and training to perform the duties with efficiency and effective manner. Teams with good learning and training accomplish the task in less time and also bring harmony in the teams.

Only by having good team in place doesn’t ensure good results, the teams need proper training and support to work effectively and productively. The most important training the team should start with “effective communication” this will help in establishing free flow of information within the team and outside with external business stakeholders. After a full-fledged
training on communication
the next phase of training should focus on
work planning, goal setting and prioritizing. This will enable individuals to be set on track and on time with their assigned task and deliverable.

Organizations with better training support system are able to create team based culture, which helps in taking better business decisions, healthy work environment which all leads to increase in productivity and growth of organization and individuals.

Karmanyeva adhikarste ma phaleshu kadachan,
Makarmaphala heturbhuh martesangostavakarmani

The above sloka was said by Krishna and says “Your right is only to work but not with its fruit; let not the fruit of action be not your motive; nor let your attachment be to inaction.”

We have been listening to these since ages and we grown up with it, we wrote many paragraphs, articles, and business philosophies but unfortunately very few have understood incorrectly.

I just want to reiterate what Bhagwat gita say : it says ” YOU DO YOUR WORK WITH FULL CONCENTRATION, EFFORT AND ENERGY, DO NOT THINK ABOUT RESULTS WHILE ON WORK, because thinking about result while on work will take away your concentration from the work, results will automatically come after efforts.

For example: a student attempting his question paper does not bother about result in the examination hall, neither he is worried about competitors, his full concentration is on the answers and this effort is followed by results. This “Examination Hall Formula, if is followed religiously at work, results would astonish all! The process of motivation according to ‘The Bhagavad Gita Gospel’ is the clarion call to a man to stay ‘Self Motivated‘.

Who sells the largest number of cameras in India?
Your guess is likely to be Sony, Canon or Nikon. Answer is none of the above. The winner is Nokia whose main line of business in India is not cameras but cell phones.
Reason being cameras bundled with cell phones are outselling stand alone cameras. Now, what prevents the cellphone from replacing the camera outright? Nothing at all. One can only hope the Sonys and Canons are taking note.

Try this.

Who is the biggest in music business in India? You think it is HMV Sa-Re-Ga-Ma? Sorry.

The answer is
Airtel. By selling caller tunes (that play for 30 seconds) Airtel makes more than what music companies make by selling music albums (that run for hours).
Incidentally Airtel is not in music business. It is the mobile service provider with the largest subscriber base in India. That sort of competitor is difficult to detect, even more difficult to beat (by the time you have identified him he has already gone past you). But if you imagine that Nokia and Bharti (Airtel’s parent) are breathing easy you can’t be farther from truth.

Nokia confessed that they all but missed the smartphone bus. They admit that Apple’s Iphone and Google’s Android can make life difficult in future. But you never thought Google was a mobile company, did you? If these illustrations mean anything, there is a bigger game unfolding. It is not so much about mobile or music or camera or emails?

The “Mahabharat” (the great Indian epic battle) is about “what is tomorrow’s personal digital device”? Will it be a mobile or a palmtop with a telephone? All these are little wars that add up to that big battle. Hiding behind all these wars is a gem of a question – “who is my competitor?”

Once in a while, to intrigue my students I toss a question at them. It says “What Apple did to Sony, Sony did to Kodak, explain?” The smart ones get the answer almost immediately. Sony defined its market as audio (music from the walkman). They never expected an IT company like Apple to encroach into their audio domain. Come to think of it, is it really surprising? Apple as a computer maker has both audio and video capabilities. So what made Sony think he won’t compete on pure audio? “Elementary Watson”. So also Kodak defined its business as film cameras, Sony defines its businesses as “digital.”

In digital camera the two markets perfectly meshed. Kodak was torn between going digital and sacrificing money on camera film or staying with films and getting left behind in digital technology. Left undecided it lost in both. It had to. It did not ask the question “who is my competitor for tomorrow?”

The same was true for IBM whose mainframe revenue prevented it from seeing the PC. The same was true of Bill Gates who declared “internet is a fad!” and then turned around to bundle the browser with windows to bury Netscape. The point is not who is today’s competitor. Today’s competitor is obvious. Tomorrow’s is not.

In 2008, who was the toughest competitor to British Airways in India? Singapore airlines? Better still, Indian airlines? Maybe, but there are better answers. There are competitors that can hurt all these airlines and others not mentioned.

The answer is videoconferencing and telepresence services of HP and Cisco. Travel dropped due to recession. Senior IT executives in India and abroad were compelled by their head quarters to use videoconferencing to shrink travel budget. So much so, that the mad scramble for American visas from Indian techies was nowhere in sight in 2008. (India has a quota of something like 65,000 visas to the U.S. They were going a-begging. Blame it on recession!). So far so good. But to think that the airlines will be back in business post recession is something I would not bet on. In short term yes. In long term a resounding no. Remember, if there is one place where Newton’s law of gravity is applicable besides physics it is in electronic hardware.

Between 1977 and 1991 the prices of the now dead VCR (parent of Blue-Ray disc player) crashed to one-third of its original level in India. PC’s price dropped from hundreds of thousands of rupees to tens of thousands. If this trend repeats then telepresence prices will also crash. Imagine the fate of airlines then. As it is not many are making money. Then it will surely be RIP!

India has two passions. Films and cricket. The two markets were distinctly different. So were the icons. The cricket gods were Sachin and Sehwag. The filmi gods were the Khans (Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and the other Khans who followed suit). That was, when cricket was fundamentally test cricket or at best 50 over cricket.

Then came IPL and the two markets collapsed into one. IPL brought cricket down to 20 overs. Suddenly an IPL match was reduced to the length of a 3 hour movie. Cricket became film’s competitor. On the eve of IPL matches movie halls ran empty. Desperate multiplex owners requisitioned the rights for screening IPL matches at movie halls to hang on to the audience. If IPL were to become the mainstay of cricket, as it is likely to be, films have to sequence their releases so as not clash with IPL matches. As far as the audience is concerned both are what in India are called 3 hour “tamasha” (entertainment). Cricket season might push films out of the market.

Look at the products that vanished from India in the last 20 years. When did you last see a black and white movie? When did you last use a fountain pen? When did you last type on a typewriter? The answer for all the above is “I don’t remember!” For some time there was a mild substitute for the typewriter called electronic typewriter that had limited memory. Then came the computer and mowed them all. Today most technologically challenged guys like me use the computer as an upgraded typewriter. Typewriters per se are nowhere to be seen.

One last illustration. 20 years back what were Indians using to wake them up in the morning? The answer is “alarm clock.” The alarm clock was a monster made of mechanical springs. It had to be physically keyed every day to keep it running. It made so much noise by way of alarm, that it woke you up and the rest of the colony. Then came quartz clocks which were sleeker. They were much more gentle though still quaintly called “alarms.” What do we use today for waking up in the morning? Cellphone! An entire industry of clocks disappeared without warning thanks to cell phones. Big watch companies like Titan were the losers. You never know in which bush your competitor is hiding!

On a lighter vein, who are the competitors for authors? Joke spewing machines? (Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple, himself a Pole, tagged a Polish joke telling machine to a telephone much to the mirth of Silicon Valley). Or will the competition be story telling robots? Future is scary! The boss of an IT company once said something interesting about the animal called competition. He said “Have breakfast …or…. be breakfast”! That sums it up rather neatly.

This is what most of us would have heard many times and recently during recession many would have advised you.

Some of you might be lucky to get opportunity from these Big executive search firms and consultancy firm…but the most common answer any one would have received from these head hunters would be” send your profile to us, we will get back to you” but unfortunately no one ever connected with you again.

Ever wondered why?

Was your resume too bad? Is your experience not enough? Or, or …and many questions will pop in your mind.

Now, we need to understand; where is the problem? Is there a problem with the job seeker or with the head hunting firm?

As per my opinion from candidate side there can’t be any problem, because he has been working for years in the industry and has proved his caliber, possess are the required skills and experiences and had all the attributes of a good employee. Then is their problem with the firm…No…The firm is doing good business; they have given some great leaders and professional to the organizations.

Let’s understand how these Head hunters work? In general we all know these guys help job seekers in getting jobs.

But the Fact is:

Head hunters DO NOT follow any professional who is LOOKING for JOB.

Head Hunter works for The EMPLOYER not the person looking for JOB.

Head Hunters do everything what’s good for Employer not for the Job Seeker.

Most of the head hunters are specialized in particular domain like investment management/hedge funds/infrastructure/ retail, etc…

Head hunters have very clear criteria of managing the database & following the professional on some of these parameters; they look at Salary range (not less than $ 400,000 per annum), 10+ year’s industry experience, Performance track record, awards, presence at conferences and high level meetings, etc…

The executive firms are hired by Companies/ Organization based on their specification/ requirement

Now you might have got some fair idea, how the headhunters work…so as Job seeker…How do you find a job for yourself.

Find out any consulting firm which specialized in placing candidates, which works for job seekers.

I know a company which is listening to the job seekers (http://www.strategyworks.in) This Company which helps job seekers & working professional, who are in middle /sr. management roles & they either do not get time to think about their career growth or change due to their busy professional and personal life.

Reach directly to the companies: talk to decision makers, share your industry experiences, understand their problem and suggest possible suggestion and surely you would be able to get a job for yourself.

The college is located towards New air port road, the roads and infrastructure has improved dramatically in this area, The college has beautiful building and has playground, green lawns.

Reception area, the college offers all regular degree courses and specialized course like BE, MBA & MCA.

BE & MBA are new started courses, this year is the 3rd batch. Mr. Ananth HR – is the placement officer, we talked about college placements status and activities, this year due to Recession College has not seen good companies reaching to them for placements, but expecting some companies to come in next 2-3 months duration. MCA course has got its first batch running with intake of 9 students this year, expected to grow, but all depends upon good placements happening from BE & MBA courses.

The interiors and architectures of college is marvelous, this would match to the standards of companies institution selection parameters, but college need to invest in more quality people and have to market the college to institutions, this college has got potential, all it needs to be exploited for good cause.

Some film shooting is in progress in the college premises

This college enjoys Top ranked Engineering & Management College in Bangalore, Karnataka. It has got 17th position all India Engineering colleges ranking.

Entrepreneurship Cell of this college has produced some renowned companies to corporate India.

The placement Notice board talks its success story in itself; in this recession period, where companies are striving for companies to visit, this college enjoys the fortune 500 Companies presence in the campus , some of the key names which can be seen on the notice board are Amazon, Aricent,Cerner,HP, Microsoft, Accenture, SG etc…

Prof Khan- Placement Officer is the key person behind the great success and placement in this college, he is always busy interacting with industry and the best part is, he is able to take out time for training and development, he is coach and mentor to students and train them from the day student become the part of college.

The new building is up and running

On the Way to Sri Revana Siddeshwara Institute of Technology, the around 3 KM from International airport main road, this area comes under “Pollution Free Zone”.

This road leads to college campus, it’s all thick layer of dust and condition is worst in rains, students has to suffer a lot, this situation of roads

Sri Revana Siddeshwara Institute of Technology

The college is around 14 years old, and it was really giving look of an old age college, all the walls, doors and floor were dirty, Placement notice board was empty. Currently placement department is headed by Mr. Ernest Devadass, he is Ex- IIMBian, he was working as an assistant in the placement team of IIMB, then for few years he served as placement Officer at MVJ College of Engineering, he was the first to implement dress code in the college for students, and set record placement. He also shared important information on, how the companies choose and decide which college to visit for campus. As per him…the college has to first approach companies for placement and share the vital statistics of college, after that the company will issue a format to get filled up by college, this document contains details like, college capacity, branches, intakes, Teachers profile(No; of BE, Btech, M.tech, PhDs.) and other criteria are to be filled and sent across to company , upon receipt of the info the company representative visit the college and verifies the details shared with them , once all the info is matching to their standard then the college is listed in the companies list of colleges for placements.

M.S. Engineering College(http://www.msec.ac.in/)

The college is very near to International airport, its almost 10 years old college and has fairly good infrastructure and faculties, the biggest problem with this college is commutation, it’s around 6 KM inside from main road, and public transport is not readily available, except college bus no other means are available. The college has got a newly appointed office administrator, who is also responsible to take Placement responsibilities. Mr. Bhaskar is the placement officer; he is young and energetic and commits to give his 100% efforts. We talked about an hr on all the aspects of placement. As per him, the college lacks in marketing itself and its students. management does not want to shell out money on these things but expects good placement should happen, I saw him collating details of companies and sending mails to invite companies for placement, some of them responded positive, I also suggested him some ideas on how to get companies to colleges and how he can get good placements for students on his own efforts. I’m sure he will definitely bring some companies to college and I’m goanna support him wholeheartedly.

It’s beautiful and green campus

The placement notice board talks its own story, 2009 batch has been fairly good year most of top hirers are MNCs

This is the main entrance gate of BMSIT; this college is subsidiary of BMS Engineering College @ Bull Temple Road. It’s around 7 years old and grown at hockey stick rate. I had around an hour discussion with Mr. Ganesh- Placement officer. I found him very energetic and enthusiastic to his work, there are many firsts to his credit, after his joining to college, he created the database of passed out candidates (from 2005 batch to current) and formed alumni. He feel the alumni ( Social Networking) holds the key position in today’s cut throat competitive worlds to get companies for campus placement. He not only gives opportunity to current batch to sit in placement, but also to students who passed out and due to certain reasons couldn’t get placed. I talked about the placement status for current year…he said around 70% students have already got placed and still companies are visiting them. The college has beautiful history and is doing extremely good. This is among top 10 Engineering colleges in Karnataka.

I got opportunity to meet Prof. M.R.HOLLA- Director. He is well known in education industry, he has chaired RV Engineering College for more than 10 years and gave it a name and reputation what it is enjoying today. I found him very down to earth person, detail oriented and most disciplined person. He will surely make SVIT a modern education hub.

He has huge network of people from corporates and MNC’s and he belives in one thing i.e. Make your self accessible to others 24/7. He never keeps the phone in silent or switoff mode and will answer to calls any time , this is the successmantra behind his great achivements. I found him not happy with current work enviornment, which is more politized, showoff and blamegame. He is a great resourse, which needs to exploited in gentle and respectful manner. He can be a great asset to college.

I talk to her about 10 mins and she refered me to talk to Placement team. I met Mr. Robert H Utraid- faculty MBA. He is young chap , wears great smile and has ears to listen. We talked for about half an hour, and I got to know some great insights about collges and some fantastics idea to make he college a great collge.

He said this collge atracts students from all over India and some foreiogn studnets ( mostly from third world countries), i.e it has more cultural flavours, it give opportunity to students to learn & share the knowlde about the cultutral differences and how it impacts the business. The other great advabtage this collge has got apart from other college sof same league is the “FACULTY“. The faculties are from Corporates and industries, and these guys are more capable of imparting conceptual knowledhe gelled with practical knowledge & experinces. This collge also enjoys great alumnai and thay are able to learavge those connection to get more companies come in for placements. I can sense good vibes coming from this collge and it has potential to Top most rank in Business collges lists.

The credit goes to the placement officer “Mr. B Venkatrama Rao”…The collge has got inhouse faculty to train the students on Softskills and prepare them for PLACEMENTS

I saw a list of project undergoing in the room , found around 6-7 projects( Companies) were going on , the college support students(entrepreneurs) by providing infrastructure, getting loan sanctions and platform to learn and implement strategies and plans

This Notice bards talk in itself…success stories of placed candidates in this recession time, college was able to place good amount of students and still expecting to get more companies. Ms. Veena R plays the pivotal role in getting this college so much of happy satisfied companies to come and recruit candidates. She believes in building up long relationship and this can only make this college a great college.

This college still need to evolve and has to work hard in getting up to TOP league college list.

These are the lyrics of movie 3 Idiots, all you would know, this movie really reminded me of my own college days and all the sweet & bitter memories became alive once again.

Today I’m grown up and think I can contribute my learning, experience all those budding engineers those who come to college for education and to shape up their lives.

I’m going to visit to all the engineering & MBA colleges in Bangalore, to understand about the college infrastructure, people, placements, co-curricular activities, and try to gather all the information, which are very much required to decide upon, which college to choose during admissions.

Keep following us here for more news, reviews on campus in and around Bangalore
